AirAsia will stop flying to Tehran Iran in 2018
Happy Chinese New Year everyone. There is a short announcement here. We got this information yesterday and it is official. AirAsia X will stop flying to Tehran, Iran soon. The announcement came as the affected passengers received the email from AirAsia over the cancellation. AirAsia X will be stop flying to Tehran effecting 23rd April 2018.
Last year, AirAsia also announced that they will be stop flying to Kalibo (Boracay) and Surat Thani this year. Now, AirAsia X is stop flying to Tehran. We suspect the loading factor could contribute to this.
If you are one of the passengers affected, you change your flight to an earlier travel date (before suspension) on the same route without additional cost but subject to seat availability. You also can choose to retain the value of the fare in a Credit Account for future travel with AirAsia and it must be redeemed within 180 calendar days from the date of issue. Lastly, you can also choose to get a full refund in the amount equivalent to your booking.
We did a quick search on AirAsia.com and you can’t find any flights to Tehran in May 2018 anymore. If you want to visit Tehran, make sure you make a quick visit before 23rd April.
Tehran is a beautiful city and we hear so many compliments for this city in Iran. Sadly, we don’t have the time to visit this place yet. Maybe we will one day in the future.
There will be new destinations AirAsia and AirAsia X will be flying soon. We would announce anything until we received the official words.

This is such a shame. I flew D7 776 and D7 777 to Tehran (return) in May 2017, the flight was like no other. Persian people are amazing, so friendly, chatty and engaging. The flight to IKA was full, whereas the flight back to KUL was almost empty. I am incredibly sad to hear this, there is now no cheap airline to fly to Iran from KUL at the prices I did. I paid $150 AUD each way, so $300 return for my flights, at promo price. Very sad!
