Nihonkai Japanese Restaurant Old Klang Road
Nihonkai Japanese Restaurant Old Klang Road
Nihonkai is one of our favourite Japanese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. We have been patronising this restaurants for decades. It is popular for its value for money Japanese food. The restaurant is very popular in this neighbourhood and it is often full during dinner time.
The last time we blogged about this was in 2009 so it is time for us to update the review. We visited this restaurant last week in March 2018 so this is the latest review you can read about Nihonkai Japanese Restaurant in Old Klang Road. We noticed that they opened another outlet in Kota Kemuning and Dataran Mentari Sunway. We haven’t visited Nihonkai Kota Kemuning or Dataran Mentari Sunway branch yet so if you are staying in that area, you can give it a try.
We went to Nihonkai at Old Klang Road for dinner during weekend. There was already a few group of customers waiting before us. It takes around 15 – 20 minutes of waiting before our turn.
A glance at their menu, the food prices remained very competitive. You can always say it is cheap eats here and that is the one of the main reasons why people keep coming back patronising this restaurant. Most dinner sets are around RM 20++ which is very affordable.
We started the dinner with the fried shrimps. This is like snacks and the little shrimps are crispy, crunchy and addictive. It goes well with beer than green tea.
The beef sukiyaki set comes with miso soup, chawan mushi (egg), raw egg and rice. You need to dip the beef into the raw egg before you eat it. That is the proper way of enjoying sukiyaki like Japanese.
We ordered the Salmon Terikayi set with miso soup, chawan mushi and rice. The salmon comes with two pieces and it is grilled and add with sweet teriyaki sauce.
Grilled Saba Fish. Add a little bit of lemon for the acidic taste. The fish is fresh and this is good.
Grilled Salmon Fish with Butter. We always love grilled salmon fish with butter with the acidic taste of lemon.
We didn’t order sushi, sashimi or tempura during this time. The food overall is good and the price is very reasonable. For the price you pay, don’t compare the food with other high end Japanese restaurants. This is good for the price you pay. You can consider Nihonkai Japanese Restaurant a value for money Japanese restaurant. Go early to avoid disappointment and the long queue.
