The Loaf Bakery and Bistro Closed Down After 12 Years
You probably read it yesterday, The Loaf Bakery and Bistro closed down after 12 years in business. All their current 12 outlets The Loaf Bakery and Bistro are closed down. The notice was announced on 9th April as below:
“Thank you very much for enjoying and supporting the Loaf and our breads all these long years. We are truly happy and proud of the fact that the Loaf has been able to contribute to the betterment of quality of breads and bakery industry in Malaysia.”
The statement is taken down together with their Facebook Page once the outlets are officially closed down.
The Loaf Bakery and Bistro is the brainchild of Tun Dr. Mahathir, our former prime minister and also the opposition leader in the upcoming 14th Malaysia General Election. However, Tun Dr. M denies that he owns the bakery as mentioned in NST today (read here).
The main reason for the closure as reported by most daily is they have been losing money for the past few years. You can read it from TheStar here.
The Loaf Bakery and Bistro started their first outlet in Telaga Harbour, Langkawi in 2006. Coincidently we bumped to Tun Dr. Mahathir in The Loaf Bakery and Bistro Telaga Harbour outlet in 2009 and you can read it here.
To be honest, the food at The Loaf Bakery and Bistro is always consistency good. However, it is never cheap (due to high operation costs and high rentals in the shopping malls). Times are tough for food and beverages companies in Malaysia for the past few years. There are many popular restaurants have closed down in recent years such as Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan and Korea’s Tous Les Jous.
