Teppan by Chef Yonemura Resorts World Sentosa Review
Planning to visit Sentosa Island after watching the Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump summit today? If you haven’t been to Sentosa, this is the right time to visit. Universal Studios Singapore is taken over by Jurrasic World right now, you can stay at Hard Rock Hotel Sentosa if you are coming with your family and there is a new teppanyaki restaurant called Teppan by Chef Yonemura just opened earlier this year.
Teppan by Chef Yonemura is a brand new dining concept conceived by the much-lauded Masayasu Yonemura, chef-owner of the acclaimed Michelin-starred Yonemura restaurant in Kyoto. It is located near the Hard Rock Café and Universal Studios Sentosa and it is also Yonemura’s first restaurant outside of Japan. The restaurant comprises three dining rooms which accommodate 21 guests in total.
Chef Yonemura’s restaurant in Gion Kyoto is a Michelin One Starred restaurant. He is bringing a new dining experience for Teppan by Chef Yonemura. You can call it a fresh expression of his culinary finesse and ideas, the restaurant combines the artistry and showmanship of teppanyaki, mixology and flambé desserts, providing a splendid theatrical experience throughout your meal. The cuisine blends chef Yonemura’s forte in innovative French-Japanese fare with the skills and traditions behind the teppan grill to create an entirely new and unique teppan experience.
Borne out of Chef Yonemura’s fascination in the simplicity yet complexity of the teppan grill and his ingenuity in fusing east and west dining, he conceptualized Teppan by Yonemura to give the art of Japanese cooking on a hotplate grill a modern edge. This is where the artistry of teppanyaki meets nouvelle Japanese kaiseki.
The restaurant exclusively presents multi-course kaiseki menus which showcase the finest ingredients air-flown from Japan and exquisite dishes that are expertly executed using the teppan grill as well as a combination of contemporary and classic cooking techniques.
With a background in French culinary training, Chef Yonemura’s well-honed ability to marry elegant Japanese accents with the bold flavours of French cooking has earned his cuisine a fine repute among epicureans as ‘Yonemura-style’.
With a team of experienced chefs who have trained with Chef Yonemura in both Japan and Singapore, you will be treated to an immersive dining experience at Teppan by Chef Yonemura. Be enthralled and interact with our chefs as they masterfully prepare exciting creations, cocktails and desserts right before your eyes.

We love the concept of private rooms and the chefs will cook in front of you. You can see how they make and cook the food in front of you. We love how the chef explains the food to us and this feels a lot like a Michelin starred restaurant.
When you sit down and you look around and you get all these details like this beautiful plate for an example. The food, the technique, the plating and the presentation, we totally loved it. They also serve the best sencha green tea of 2018.
This cold fedelini with salmon roe and scallop is very refreshing. This is really tasty.
Chef Katrin showed us the live lobster. If you order Teppanyaki Lobster (for SGD 88++ extra), you will get the whole lobster and not sharing.
This is how the lobsters look like after it is cut to halves. You can watch how they cook the lobster on the video below.
The chef cooked the lobster with oil and then seasoned with rock salt. Next, they boiled the lobster using the sake. Then, the flambe the lobster before cutting the meat and cooked it with butter and herbs.
This is the end product and don’t deceived by the look as the taste is pretty good.
We love the texture of the meat of the lobster. The flavour of lobster is mild with butter and herbs and hints of sake after taste. We enjoyed this.
This is the Wagyu Beef A4 or Wagyu Beef Grade A4. Since we had Teppanyaki Kobe beef in Kobe before, we can compare this with the one we had in Japan.
If you notice that one of the signature selling point of Teppan by Chef Yonemura is the ‘flambe’ so enjoy the video below.
Love this picture a lot. We are not using camera to capture this but our reliable Samsung Note 8. This picture is not edited or filtered. This their signature ‘flambe’.
This is one of the best wagyu we tasted. The texture is comparable to Kobe beef with slight salty after taste. Try and enjoy this with your eyes closed, the feeling can make you ‘fly’.
Just in case the food is not enough for you, you will still have the Garlic Rice and Pasta.
Our dinner ends with Crepe Suzette and they did flambe on this dish too. Overall, the food is good, service is fantastic and the atmosphere is comfortable and cozy. If you are looking for good food especially for the wagyu A4 and lobster, please do visit Teppan by Chef Yonemura.
