Welcome to Khao Lak, the hidden gem of Phang Nga Thailand. This is a popular beach haven and frequently visited by the European tourists. Khao Lak is 90 minutes of driving from Phuket International Airport. You can find many International brand hotels as well as local boutique hotels and resorts. We stayed a few hotels in Khao Lak and one of the newest and best resort is the award winning La Vela Khao Lak.
We went to La Vela Khao Lak last year as we ventured around Phuket and Phang Nga to taste some of the restaurants listed under the Michelin Guide Thailand 2020. We rented a car from Thai Rent A Car at the Phuket International Airport and drove to Khao Lak. You can check Thai Rent A Car rates at https://thairentacar.com/. The journey takes around 90 minutes and you get to see the beaches and the local sceneries of Southern Thailand.
La Vale Khao Lak is located along the Bang Niang Beach. This area is very quiet and lesser crowd compare to other beaches in Khao Lak.
There are free parking spaces for La Vela Khao Lak guests and the moment you step into the resort, you will be amazed by their beautiful and unique architecture and design. You will be also greeted by the front desk officers of La Vela Khao Lak.
La Vela Khao Lak offers two zones, the ocean side and the poolside. They offer a total of 181 guest rooms with 8 room types. There are Ultra Luxe Pool Access Grand Seaview, Deluxe Seaview, Deluxe Poolside and more.
We stayed at the Ultra Luxe Pool Access Grand Seaview, the best suite of La Vela Khao Lak. The Room size is 60 m²/646 ft² and this is super spacious.
It comes with King Size bed, premium audio sound system, flat screen TV, mini fridge, open wardrobe, sofa, working desk, multi universal power adapter and more.
The bathroom comes with the toilet and standing shower with premium toiletries.
The room is called the luxe pool access as it is connected to the public pool from the balcony. On top of that, there is a private jacuzzi at the outdoor area.
You can view the Bang Niang Beach from the balcony but you can’t access to the beach from here due to security and privacy purposes.
The architecture and design of La Vela Khao Lak involves a lot of triangle shapes. If you check on the Instagram, this is one of the most popular resorts in Khao Lak. Many celebrities and influencers stayed in this resort with many Instagrammable places.
There are a few places you can chill at La Vela Khao Lak. If you want really a cup a coffee to read a book with air conditioner, you should visit the Cotton Café and Library. Every single corner of this café is so beautiful with its design and colours!
On top of that, there are facilities like the gym and the Spa Qaqula! This is a very popular spa so make sure you make your reservation when you check into the resort. They offer many different spa packages for singles and couples.
For dinner, we went to Kokulo Beach Club for their Weekend BBQ Seafood buffet. The Kokulo Beach Club is located next to the Ban Niang beach and they offer live band performances and cocktails at the bar.
This is probably the best seafood buffet ever we had in a resort. They offer unlimited grilled lobster for the guests. On top of that they also offer grilled fish (seabass and salmon), grilled squid, grilled crabs and mussels. Hence, there are also a wide selection of sashimi and also grilled meat like beef, lamb, chicken and more. For seafood lovers, you must try Kokulo Beach Club’s Weekend BBQ Seafood Buffet.
After dinner, we still have room for cocktails while enjoying the live band and the fire show. It was a night of good food, great music and live band performance.
At night, it is very calm and quiet at La Vela Khao Lak. We can only hear the sound of the sea waves from the sea.
The breakfast is served at Kokulo Beach Club and they offer a wide variety of food including Western and Thai food. You can taste some of the Thai dessert at the breakfast service.
After breakfast, you can walk around the beach or taking a swim if you want to. This is a quiet beach so you can chill and relax here.
La Vela is truly the haven of Khao Lak. If you want to take a break from your work, this is the place you need to visit. Khao Lak is not over commercialised so there are not many tourists here.
