Restoran Fook Loy has been around in Kajang for decades. Many of the people staying in Kajang recommended us to eat at Restoran Fook Loy. The restaurant is located near the junction of Sungai Chua and SILK Highway. They are open for lunches and dinners.
Restoran Fook Loy is a house converted restaurant and it offers air condition. It is the typical house restaurant in Kajang. We were there for a simple family dinner with our boys. Most of the dishes are similar like Sweet and Sour Pork and Steamed Fish as they loved these dishes. We also ordered Salted Egg Mantis Prawn and also Stir Fried Lala. We didn’t order their signature coconut prawn, maybe for our next visit.
Stir fried lala (clam) with ginger and spring onion. We enjoyed the freshness and the texture of the lala, love the taste of this as this complement well with the rice.
Their version of salted egg mantis prawn comes with hints of spiciness. We love the crunchy texture of the mantis prawn but the salted egg is not cooked thoroughly. You can spot chunks of salted egg here and there instead of coating the mantis prawn.
The kids love the taste of their sweet and sour pork but the texture of the pork is a bit tough. We expected the pork deep fried to more crunchy texture but it didn’t happen. This version of sweet and sour is more old school.
We forgot the exact name of this dish. It is basically steamed fish with ginger and comes with tofu. We have no complaints for this dish as it is steamed to perfection and the taste is alright.
Overall, Restoran Fook Loy style of cooking is more towards traditional style. The food prices here are value for money and the food taste here is decent. We do except the food here to be better due to so many good recommendations by our friends. Maybe we didn’t order their signature dishes so we might come back again for a revisit next time.
