Goodbye Puffer Fish Lantern at Shinsekai Osaka
Goodbye Puffer Fish Lantern at Shinsekai Osaka
We believe most people visited Shinsekai when they travel to Osaka and the puffer fish lantern is one of the iconic symbols of the area. You can find the Hitachi Tsutenkaku Tower in Shinseikai and one of the best spots for photography is near the puffer fish lantern. Sadly, the puffer fish lantern has been taken down and many say goodbye to the famous icon of Shinsekai Osaka.
We might not blogged about this place before but we visited Shinsekai a few times for photo and food. The huge iconic puffer fish paper lantern is actually owned by Osaka fugu restaurant Zurobaya and it was taken down on 3 September 2020.
The Zurobaya restaurant is officially closed down on 15 September and it is the main reason they took down the iconic puffer fish lantern.
For your information Zuboraya opened in 1920 and due to the effect of COVID-19, they decided to close it for good and if not, it will be their 100th year anniversary.
Many locals felt it is sad to say goodbye to the iconic puffer fish lantern and Spa World has indicated it would accept the lantern, among others, and there are many in the local community calling for it to be preserved.
Times are tough for business around the world due to COVID-19. Please be safe and stay strong. We would love to revisit Osaka and Japan again until it is safe to do so. For now, let’s say Goodbye to Puffer Fish Lantern at Shinsekai Osaka.
Guess even such a long-standing restaurant…cannot withstand the effects of Covid-19
