Siong Tong Gai EkoCheras Mall Cheras
This is one of the few restaurants we tried in EkoCheras Mall in Cheras. Siong Tong Gai is probably one of the most popular restaurants in this mall as it is often packed (before COVID-19). You can also read about Yi Pin Ramen at https://www.placesandfoods.com/2020/08/yi-pin-ramen-ekocheras-mall-cheras.html with their famous blue ramen as well as this Restoran Hao Shi Ji at https://www.placesandfoods.com/2020/06/restoran-hao-shi-ji-ekocheras-mall-cheras.html.
EkoCheras Mall is located by the Taman Mutiara MRT Station and opposite Cheras Leisure Mall. It is a huge shopping mall and it comes with a hotel and condominium. We visited the shopping mall quite frequently since their opening.
Siong Tong Gai is originated from Puchong and they started as Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan and we reviewed at https://www.placesandfoods.com/2013/02/restoran-kari-kepala-ikan-tiga-bandar-puchong-utama-puchong.html and then we also opened in IOI Puchong a couple years ago and our review at https://www.placesandfoods.com/2020/04/siong-tong-gai-ioi-puchong-mall.html. They are popular with their unique steam fish or seafood dishes in a huge pot.
Siong Tong Gai is located at M-LG-07 Ekocheras Mall, their restaurant is facing the main road of Jalan Cheras.
This is the most depressing picture of steamed fish ever. The red tilapia is steamed to perfection but the mouth of the fish is so traumatizing. We ordered this simple steamed red tilapia mainly for our boys, if not we will order the garlic and chili version. The fish is fresh, good taste and goes well with rice.
We usually order fried calamari with salted egg so this is for a change. The calamari is deep fried with crispy outer layer crust with the flakey oat. This is a bit dry and will stick with fried calamari with salted egg next time.
This is another dish for our boys and this is their favourite dish. Their version of sweet sour pork is strong with flavor, tender meat and the kids loved it.
Overall, the food is up to expectation and it is that is probably the reason why they are so popular at EkoCheras Mall. To be honest, we prefer their signature fish or seafood with garlic and chill in a pot, rather the usual steamed fish. The reason we didn’t order that because there is only a few of us and our boys don’t take chilli. Price of their food is on the average or high side as it depends on how you interpret it.
