Japan closed its borders for international tourists for over two years and recently, they have updated the Entry Requirements for Malaysians into Japan effective 10 June 2022.
The good news is Malaysians can travel to Japan from 10 June 2022 via group tours only. Before this, Malaysians are unable to travel to Japan except for special cases like business travellers, students or Japan long term resident status.
Please take note that the cap on daily foreign arrivals was raised from 3,500 since November to 5,000 on March 1, 7,000 on March 14 and to the current 10,000 on April 10. Japan will increase daily arrivals from 10,000 to 20,000 from 10 June onwards.
Travellers from 98 countries classified as ‘blue’ countries will be allowed to travel to Japan without arrival COVID testing or quarantine and this includes unvaccinated travellers.
Malaysia is listed as part of the ‘blue’ countries and hence there will be no arrival COVID testing or quarantine required.
However, Malaysians need to do a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure with negative result.
