Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula Bangkok
Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula Bangkok
This is a hidden gem from my recent trip to Bangkok. I was introduced to this restaurant, Yoong Khao Hom at I’m Park Chula. I’m Park Chula is a new community mall with open air concept and it is located near MBK Bangkok.
What is interesting about Yoong Khao Hom is it offers authentic southern cuisine from its longstanding stall in Samui to Bangkok in 2017. This is their new restaurant as they went through rebranding after 5 years in business.
The chef of Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula is Chef Sujira “Aom” Pongmorn. She is the very first MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award Presented by Blancpain in Thailand. She was the Chef de Cuisine from One MICHELIN Starred Saawaan. She was awarded the MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award 2021.
I had lunch at Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula with my friends.
Let me show what we had at Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula.
Pomelo Salad with Crispy squid and Fish crackers
Southern Fresh Crab Curry with Bettle leaves
Stir Fried Squid with Black Ink
Phuket Fried Oyster and Taro with Pork Crackling (O-Tao)
Stir Fried Beef with Wild Basil Leaves
Salted and Spicy Fermented Fish Entrail and Cashew Nuts
Charcoal Pork Ribs with Southern Red Curry Paste (Gorlae)
Dessert
Coconut Dumpling in Sweet Coconut Milk
Rice Paper Rolled with Sweet and Salted Coconut
Roti Banana Served with Ice Cream
That is quite a lot for lunch and let’s do a quick review for all the dishes one by one.
Pomelo Salad with Crispy squid and Fish crackers is quite interesting as they added the crispy squid and fish crackers for more texture. This is definitely different than the usual salad as they use pomelo.
Southern Fresh Crab Curry with Bettle leaves
Stir Fried Squid with Black Ink. Don’t be fooled by the look, this is really tasty.
Phuket Fried Oyster and Taro with Pork Crackling (O-Tao). I tried the Phuket Fried Oyster with Taro / Yam in one of my trips to Phuket. Oyster omelet or oh chien with yam is rare, you can’t find them in Malaysia. Here, they add pork for more fragrant and taste wise is different than what Malaysia or Singapore version.
Stir Fried Beef with Wild Basil Leaves and Petai.
Salted and Spicy Fermented Fish Entrail and Cashew Nuts. This is a common Southern Thai dish and this is spicy and they added cashew nuts for the texture.
Charcoal Pork Ribs with Southern Red Curry Paste (Gorlae) is really tasty. The meat is tender and you can’t stop having this. The red curry paste is savoury, a bit spicy but very enjoyable.
Dessert
Coconut Dumpling in Sweet Coconut Milk
Rice Paper Rolled with Sweet and Salted Coconut
Roti Banana Served with Ice Cream. This is similar to our roti pisang but what they did is they caramelised the banana and topped with ice cream. Same same but different.
Overall, the food at Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula is very tasty and definitely worth the visit. I like how the chef added her own flavours to the Southern Thailand dishes. While the food looks different, the taste is similar with unique twist or texture to make it more memorable. Most food taste are heavily spiced with mild spicy that is easily enjoyable by everyone.
The title of MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award lives up to its reputation as Chef Sujira Pongmorn, recreated the Southern Thai dishes with her own touches of magic. You might never heard of Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula but this is definitely worth a visit when you are in Bangkok. Yoong Khao Hom I’m Park Chula Bangkok is highly recommended.
