Restoran Pik Wah Jalan Hang Jebat Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand Kuala Lumpur
Restoran Pik Wah Jalan Hang Jebat Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand Kuala Lumpur
Michelin Guide Malaysia just released their list of restaurants a week ago. There are many arguments on the restaurants listed in Michelin Guide Malaysia. I look at the Michelin Bib Gourmand Kuala Lumpur list and I found Restorant Pik Wah Jalan Hang Jebat.
Restoran Pik Wah is definitely worth of the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand. This is a very old restaurant and they have been operating since 1970s. If you are from Kuala Lumpur, ask your parents and I am sure they heard of Restoran Pik Wah as they are as popular as Restoran Sek Yuen during the old days.
The interior of the rest is more the less the same as in the 1970s, most of the tableware as well as the people working here are not young anymore. However, that doesn’t mean the service here is slow.
We always book our tables as sometimes it is fully booked for special occasions or events. They have many loyal customers from the old days and also new customers who loved their food.
We visited Restoran Pik Wah restaurant twice this year and time to check out some of the dishes we ordered are Braised Pork Tong Po Yuk, Two Styles Kai Lan, Steamed Patin Fish, Deep Fried Prawns with Egg, Grilled Chicken with Pineapple and Longjing Beancurd with Pumpkin Sauce.
Braised Pork or Tong Po Yuk comes with fried mantao and bak choy. This is probably one of the best tong po yuk we have tasted for a very long time.
The meat is tender while the sauce is savory. It is best to complement it with the soft sliced mantao with crispy outer layer. This is memorable.
Two Styles Kai Lan is basically deep fried sliced kalian and stir fried kalian. The top layer is crispy sliced kalian leaves while the bottom layer is stir fried kalian with garlic.
Steamed Patin Fish with light soy sauce. Fish is fresh and steamed to perfection and it is best to complement with white rice.
Deep Fried Prawns with Egg. XL size tiger prawn deep fried to perfection as the prawn shells are crispy and it comes with the shredded crispy egg threads. The kids love this.
Chicken Drumstick with Pineapple. This is rather unique as it comes with the sweet and juicy pineapple sauce and pineapple cubes. This is addictive and complements well with the white rice.
Longjing Beancurd with Pumpkin Sauce. The beancurd is soft in texture and it comes with the sliced almonds that offers that extra crispy texture. The pumpkin sauce is light and sweet and the kids enjoyed this.
Restoran Pik Wah Jalan Hang Jebat is a popular Chinese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur even before it is listed under the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand. It deserves the Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition and this is one of the few Chinese restaurants that I don’t mind going back again.
