McQuek’s Sate Celup Bandar Hilir Melaka

It has been years since we visited a satay celup restaurant in Melaka. Since Capitol Satay Celup closed down, Ban Lee Siang is always packed, we were recommended to visit McQuek’s Sate Celup Bandar Hilir Melaka.

This place is huge and it is spacious and clean. There are parking spaces around this restaurant so it is convenient! We were lucky as we went there early so we skipped the queue. After we sat down like 5 minutes, it starts a long queue.

Since we have not been to any sate celup places for 10 years now, they charge RM 1.30 per stick and above and the most expensive stick is RM 3.80. To be honest, most of the food prices went up in Malaysia and around the world. Thus, even though the price of the sate celup looks high, it is still cheaper than the usual ‘lok lok’ food truck.

We sat on the table, the waitress came with a new sate celup sauce. This feels like Capitol Satay Celup, they come with new sate celup gravy. This is hygiene and clean so everyone gets a new set of sate celup gravy.

Please take note that they offer a deep fried area just in case you want to cook it differently. We stick with the sate celup gravy.

Time to get the ingredients. Most of the food are inside the fridge while some on the counter. They are quite a huge varieties of food you can pick.

There are quite a variety of vegetables for green lovers.

For meat, there are plenty of them. From chicken to pork, there are also pork innards to meatballs, bacons, sausages and more.

There are also dried meat, pandan chicken, fish balls, tofu, quail eggs and more.

For seafood, there are different sizes of prawns. The typical small prawn is RM 1.30 per stick now (we still remember it was 20 sen during my childhood days). There are also cockles / siham, mussels, big size prawns, squid and more.

Remember, once you pick it and you can’t return it. It is for hygiene purposes and it is not nice to take and return food anyways.

The sate gravy comes with generous amount of peanuts. The waitress will come over to stir the gravy from time to time. The reason being is to make sure the bottom is not burnt and the gravy texture is well maintained and not too thick.

The taste of the McQuek’s Sate Celup sate gravy sauce. To be honest, it is really good as it is spicy and comes with generous amount of peanuts. However, we felt it is missing the aroma as we have high expectation of it. Let’s be honest, we have not had any satay celup for the past 10 years. We are not sure whether other Sate Celup restaurants still maintain the quality and taste of the sate gravy so we felt the sate gravy at McQuek’s is pretty good in taste and texture.

Overall, the food at McQuek’s Sate Celup Bandar Hilir Melaka is fresh and good. The service is good, the people here works really fast. As the place is spacious, it is not that warm and it feels cooling too due to the fans. Price wise reflects to the current economy and inflation, nothing to complaint.
