How Much Cash You Need To Bring To Thailand
Riding the topic of the week. How Much Cash You Need To Bring To Thailand? I am getting some questions from friends and followers.
Is it true that I need to bring THB 15,000 (RM 1994) for per person or THB 20,000 (RM 2660) for family to enter Thailand?
Let me explain a bit on this as there are still friends who message me this question from time to time. It is true that this is the amount needed to enter to Thailand BUT usually they won’t ask unless they suspect you are doing something illegal. I have visited Thailand over 30 times in my lifetime, never once I asked about how much I have to enter to Thailand. Every day, thousands of Malaysians cross border to Thailand and you never heard a case of ‘money requirement’.
Today, I received a short message from Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Amazing Thailand ALWAYS welcome Genuine Bona-fide Tourists.
It has always been an international regulation, tourists must able to proof to have sufficient funds/travel arrangement when travelling overseas for holiday.
Thai Immigration Officers will only queries on suspicious traveller.
Message from Tourism of Authority of Thailand Malaysia
I believed in 2024, many of us carries Credit Cards or Debit Cards or Digital App for payments. For the past few years, cards like WISE or app like TnG is very popular among Malaysian travelers. Hence, many travelers do not carry lots of cash due to unnecessary risks.
For the past couple of years, I never heard of cases of Malaysians denied entry to Thailand due to cash requirement.
However, there is a rare case of Malaysian denied entry to France in 2015 or recent cases of Malaysians denied entry to Korea recently.
If you are scared (despite visiting Thailand so many times), just bring the proof of your itinerary, stay, cash or credit card along so you have proof if you are asked by the immigration officers in Thailand.
How much cash you need to bring to Thailand? It depends on the length of your stay and how are you going to spend? I uses a lot of credit cards and cash is only for small purchases. FYI, I don’t carry a lot of Thai Baht notes as I have my cards. If you are going to smaller towns, bringing cash could be a great idea but you won’t be spending much except souvenirs.
I will be visiting Thailand soon so see you guys if you see me! Please do comment or email me for any more questions if I can answer. Happy travels!
