R-HAAN The Wisdom of Thai Cuisine SUMMER SAMRUB
R-HAAN The Wisdom of Thai Cuisine SUMMER SAMRUB
Bangkok is a feast for the senses, and its food scene is no exception. But if you’re looking to elevate your experience beyond delicious street eats, R-HAAN, a 2-Michelin-starred restaurant, is a must-visit. Nestled in the trendy Thonglor district, R-HAAN offers an unforgettable encounter with Thai fine dining. This is my third time visiting R-HAAN and now they are offering their new menu, The Wisdom of Thai Cuisine SUMMER SAMRUB.
Walking into R-HAAN, the ambiance is elegant yet intimate. The staff’s warm welcome sets the tone for an evening of exceptional service. But the true star of the show is the food. Chef Chumpol draws inspiration from the old Thai poem “Nai Nam Mi Pla Nai Na Mi Khao” (In the river, there are fish; In the rice field, there is rice). This philosophy is evident in every dish, showcasing the rich tapestry of Thai ingredients and culinary traditions.
R-HAAN only offers multi-course tasting menus, allowing Chef Chumpol to take you on a guided journey through the flavors of Thailand. My experience began with an amuse-bouche presented in a whimsical wooden box. Each bite-sized morsel represented a different region of Thailand, a delightful explosion of taste and texture.
Throughout the meal, I was impressed by Chef Chumpol’s masterful use of seasonal ingredients. He elevates classic Thai dishes with a touch of modern flair, never losing sight of their essence. From melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu beef to fragrant curries bursting with fresh herbs, each course was a revelation.
The Wisdom of Thai Cuisine SUMMER SAMRUB
WELCOME TO THAILAND – This is their signature Thailand map with bite size local produce food with different ingredients, taste and texture.
Summer watermelon Bite – Watermelon with Sweet Dried Fish & Crispy Shallot – Simple and refreshing with hints of sweetness
Nan Royal Jubilee: Young Jackfruit Croquette
Andaman Sea Wisdom: Spicy Andaman Rice and Vegetable Salad in A golden crisps pastry – This is really spicy but its good
Stuffed Ant Eggs Spicy Salad with Herbs in Young Melon – Refreshing flavour with crunchy popping texture of the ant egg.
Rayong Deep-Fried Chicken and Crab Meat – Unique combination of chicken and crab meat, very tasty and something different than the usual ‘golden bag’
COURSE 1
A Taste of Sustainable Thai Cuisine : Rose-shaped Young Coconut with coconut cream sauce topped with Royal project Caviar and Coriander Oil. This is a masterpiece. The rose shape (using heart of coconut) is well done and the taste is light and yet tasty. This is the highlight of the The Wisdom of Thai Cuisine SUMMER SAMRUB and a very clever dish using the heart of coconut.
COURSE 2
A Rainbow Flavors of Phuket Lobster : A Lobster in Tom Yum Bisque with Cauliflower Puree and Sautéed Trio of Mushrooms. Strong flavour that didn’t overwhelm the taste of the lobster, the cauliflower puree balanced the flavour. Great combination of flavours here.
COURSE 3
A Taste of Thai Culinary Heritage: Black Cod with Three-Flavor Sauce Served with Asparagus. The first impression of this is it looks very interesting. The cod is ‘sweet’ in flavour with savoury three flavour sauce.
SORBET
Emerald of Siam in Syrup: Kiffir Lime in Syrup
MAIN COURSE
ต้มยำกุ้งแห่งอาหารเกรียงไกรสู่ UNESCO
A Celebration of Thai Flavors and Heritage for UNESCO: A Royal Thai Tom Yam Soup – This is the signature Tom Yum and it never disappoints with the fragran tom yum flavour with hints of the herbs. The prawns are fresh with great texture.
A Burst of Thai Lanna Flavors : Northern Thai Chili Dip with Five Varieties of Tomatoes serve with Aromatic Steamed Beef Shank. This is as authentic as it gets and this is spicy. The flavour is accustomed for foreigners so prepare to have some icy water after having this but you will enjoy how the locals taste this.
A Hearty and Flavorful Classic Thai Curry : Red Grouper in Yellow Curry Sauce with Coconut Blossom. This is a simple curry fish but using the red grouper with hints of the coconut blossom. Love the flavour of this and it is best compliments with the rice.
A Hint of Thai Countryside Charm: Thai Southern Style Spicy Minced French Duck with Aromatic Thai Herbs and Spices. Another authentic Thai dish that will blow your mind. I love how Chef Chumpol uses the duck egg to enhance the flavours.
Thung Kula Rong-Hai Thai Hom Mali Rice OR Highland Organic Brown Rice
DESSERT
Zesty Summer Citrus Delight: Som Chun. This is really unique and it is creation of Chef Natty of Waan Thai. Waan Thai currently closed and waiting for new location and Chef Natty is a very skilful dessert chef. I managed to tried her food at Waan Thai last year and it is excellent!
PETIT4
หมอนทองไทยมาการอง – Thai Monthong Macaron: Durian Flavor Macaron
ช็อคโคแลตแตงโม – Watermelon Chocolate Bon Bon
