Chiang Mai Flood Situation 4 Oct 2024
Believe it or not, I almost stranded in the middle of Chiang Mai Old City just now. I went there for dinner at Kiti Panit on Tha Phae Road. Once I arrived there, there were already flood water nearby.
After dinner, the water level is kept rising at slow pace. I tried to get Grab but they were stuck somewhere nearby and hence, I tried to walk back with my friend.
We got stuck on the way back so we were stranded. Not giving up, we walk back to the main road of Tha Phae Road and bumped to a tuktuk. He took us back and we tipped the driver.
Here is what happened earlier today as per reported on Thai Inquirer Facebook Post
The Chiang Mai Irrigation Project expects a large mass of water to flow into Chiang Mai this evening.
Heavy rainfall in Chiang Dao, Wiang Haeng, and Mae Taeng districts has caused additional water to join the floodwaters from yesterday. The water from Mae Taeng alone is more than 600 cubic meters per second, compared to yesterday’s 400 cubic meters per second. An additional 200 cubic meters per second from Chiang Dao district is also moving to join the flow.
Chiang Mai Municipality reported that the water level of the Ping River at P.1 station, Nawarat Bridge, has reached the critical red level, measuring 4.85 meters at 10 a.m., with a rising trend.
The problem is what happen tomorrow? There were reports that the roads near the Chiang Mai Airport is flooded today and hence, we worried that we might caught in traffic towards airport. This is not the adventure we need during this trip. Wish us luck tomorrow!
