How did I miss my flight with Malaysia Airlines
How did I miss my flight with Malaysia Airlines
I just got back from Langkawi and had a great holiday with my family. I had a great deal from Malaysia Airlines in August and hence I decided to bring my family to Langkawi during school holiday in December. Overall, we really enjoyed Langkawi as a family and we will come back for more. On our last day, I got a call from Malaysia Airlines officer and he informed us that we just missed our flight. The big question is how did I miss my flight with Malaysia Airlines?
As a seasoned traveler who did probably over 100 flights in my lifetime, I missed two flights in so far. 11 years ago in London (due to traffic) and two days ago in Langkawi. How did I miss my flight with Malaysia Airlines? Please read until the end so you won’t repeat the same mistake like me.
Our initial flight from Langkawi back to KL was schedule around 6.25 pm but they moved to around 2.50 pm and there was no more flights on Christmas eve. We were stranded and now let’s look at my mistake.
I purchased my Malaysia Airlines in early August. In late August, they emailed me about changes of the flight to earlier time. I clicked confirm and totally forgot about it. Our initial flight from Langkawi back to KL was schedule around 6.25 pm but they moved to around 2.50 pm. The changed of timing was in August and my flight was a few days ago. The first mistake is I didn’t put a reminder in my calendar.
My second mistake is I printed the first booking itinerary that states the return flight is at 6.30 pm and totally forgot about the changed flight.
My third mistake is I checked in without checking the actual timing of the return flight that clearly stated that the flight is at 2.50 pm.
My forth mistake is not sharing the return flight details to my wife so she can get a copy to double check the timing of the flight.
The whole thing was my mistake as I saved the wrong itinerary.
How to prevent this from happening again?
Firstly, I am getting many emails from Malaysia Airlines every week (mainly promotions) but do remember to save the important email at a dedicated folder.
Secondly, save it in your calendar and print it if its possible.
Thirdly, please double check the dates and timing for the flight tickets or check in at all times.
Lastly, send a copy of the flight details to your traveling partner so they can check again.
The good news is we manage to purchase our next ticket with AirAsia and spent over RM 1,100 for one way ticket with baggage for family of four. At the end of the day, this might be a bitter end but it didn’t spoil our great family experience in Langkawi.
We would also like to thank the officer of the Firefly / Malaysia Airlines counter in Langkawi for being very polite and helpful. He was trying to help us to get the next flight on the next day (upon approval) but we decided to purchase our ticket back home on the day. It was chaotic and I totally forgot his name but we would like to thank him for his kind gesture. This is how I miss my flight with Malaysia Airlines and hope you won’t repeat this silly mistake like me. Thanks for reading.
