4 New Travel Trends in Langkawi

Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, has long been a haven for beach lovers and adventure seekers. But this Malaysian island paradise is constantly evolving, offering new and exciting experiences for travellers. I have visited Langkawi five times and on my recent trip, I noticed that 4 travel trends in Langkawi.

1. Foreign tourists: Langkawi has been criticised for being expensive by local travellers for the past few years. During my recent trip to Langkawi, I noticed there is a huge numbers of foreign travellers.

Due to the direct flights to Langkawi from Bangalore India, there are a huge numbers of Indian tourists in many tourist attractions especially in Pantai Cenang.

There are also other foreign tourist ranging from Australia to Taiwan as I asked around the local tour operators.

2. Staycation Retreats: There is a segment of tourists prefer to escape the hustle and bustle of city life with a staycation retreat in Langkawi. Many medium and high end tourists chose to stay in resorts rather than exploring the island.

This is quite noticeable as there are many tourists but not seen in the tourist attractions. Places other than Pantai Cenang is not crowded as it is used to be.

3. The Rise of Pantai Cenang: Pantai Cenang is bustling with tourists and it offers similarity with some towns in Thailand.

There are many shops and restaurants in Pantai Cenang and it is almost unrecognisable since my last visit in 2017. There are also more duty free shops in Pantai Cenang now as it used to be focus at Kuah area.

The Pantai Cenang beach is still clean and pristine as my kids enjoy playing by the beach side. There are also many sea activities available at Pantai Cenang.

In the evening, Pantai Cenang is lit up with live performances by dancing robots and many fire shows.

4. New Day Trips: While the island tours are popular, there are also new private island tours, jet ski island tours and many more to entice different types of tourists.

I really enjoyed this family staycation trip to Langkawi. To be honest, I don’t mind coming back again next time. From my observation, this is the 4 New Travel Trends in Langkawi.
