My Opinion on Muslim Only Airbnb Listings
Hello 2025, lets’ start the story of my recent experience in trying to book Airbnb in Malaysia for Chinese New Year. I encountered something quite shocking and please read until the end for my opinion on Muslim only Airbnb Listings.
If you follow my blog, I featured many Airbnb listings in Malaysia and overseas like Europe and Japan in the past. I usually choose Airbnb for family staycation because it is convenient for a family to stay together and often value for money.
Recently, I tried to book a home with swimming pool for 8 people in some part of Malaysia (I don’t want anyone to backlash on these owners).
I requested to book during CNY session and I received the message, stating that ‘hai homestay for musliim guest only🙏’
To be honest, I was shocked at first reading this but I understand the reasons. I didn’t reply the lady and just cancel the request. She has her rights as home owner, I respect that.
Let me share my opinion on Muslim Only Airbnb Listings in Malaysia. You might think it is unreasonable but I always believe that there are many reasons and here are a few in my opinions.
During CNY, many Chinese tends to drink alcohol and eat pork. For a Muslim owner, it will be hard for them to clean it up especially the kitchen cutlery to things like plates and glasses. They have to ‘samak’ if we use it with alcohol or non-halal food and I understand their difficulties.
Born and bred in Malaysia for entire life, I am old enough to understand the fundamental values of Islam and I feel it is okay to reject us as NON-Muslims.
The main reason I am posting My Opinion on Muslim Only Airbnb Listings is for awareness and please don’t take it as a wrong reason.
At the end of the day, there are still listings from non-Muslim but they are limited maybe due to CNY Period. I booked hotels instead as I wanted to stay nearer to the city center. Thanks for reading everyone.
