Tourist Terrified To Know I am Malaysian in Japan

This is a true story and it happened so random when I was traveling in japan. I was at Hakodate Japan for work with friends from different part of Asia. I was helping this tourist to take his photo and he got terrified to know I am Malaysian.

Back in late 2022, I went to Japan to cover the stories of the origin of Scallop and Sea Cucumber at a few cities in Japan. One of the locations is Hakodate and I manage to find time to visit the Mt. Hakodate Observatory with my friends in the evening.

Reaching Mt. Hakodate Observatory, I was busying taking photos and videos of the breathtaking scenery of the city. I saw one male tourist struggling with his selfie so I helped him with my video light.

As usual, I introduced myself as Malaysian to him and he got terrified. The main reason is he is from Israel and I am from Malaysian. I got shocked at first as I never expected to meet an Israeli at Mt. Hakodate Observatory in Japan but it is not issue for me honestly. The Gaza conflict is beyond our say anyways.

I am not sure why he got so terrified, maybe he thought I am going to do something to him or he saw our big group of media friends.

Mt. Hakodate Observatory was closing so everyone had to take the cable car to return. To our surprise, he was not on the cable car. The tourist went missing! He could be hiding to take the last ride but it was really a strange encounter. I never knew a tourist terrified to know I am Malaysian in Japan.
