Taichung Murcott collaborating with Ipoh Renowned Halal Restaurant Caterbest
If you’re a citrus lover, you’ve likely heard whispers of the Taichung Murcott. This delightful mandarin variety, hailing from Taiwan, has garnered a loyal following for its exceptional sweetness and easy-to-peel nature. Let’s dive into what makes these little citrus gems so special.
To promote the delightful Taichung Murcott, the Taichung City Government is collaborating for the first time with Ipoh’s renowned halal Chinese restaurant, Restaurant Caterbest. This special collaboration has led to the birth of a creative dish featuring the sweet and citrusy charms of Taichung Murcott, bringing a refreshing taste of Taiwan to Malaysian diners.
Taichung Murcott is prized not only for its sweet and refreshing flavour but also for its excellent growing process as shown by its dual certifications under Global G.A.P. and ISO 22000 standards.
Taichung Murcott are known for their:
- Intense Sweetness: They are exceptionally sweet, often described as having a honey-like flavor.
- Juicy Flesh: The flesh is incredibly juicy and tender, melting in your mouth.
- Easy-Peel Skin: The thin, smooth skin is easily removed, making them a convenient snack.
- Few Seeds: Many fruits contain very few seeds, enhancing the eating experience.
- Vibrant Color: They boast a bright, orange hue, adding to their visual appeal.
Amazing ingredients shine even more under capable hands and with over 20 years of culinary excellence, Restaurant Caterbest is more than capable. Restaurant Caterbest has welcomed distinguished guests including Oscar-winning actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, earning its reputation as a top destination for halal gourmet cuisine in Ipoh.
To mark this collaboration, representatives from the Taichung Farmers’ Association will be visiting Malaysia to promote Taichung Murcott.
The press conference was graced by the Director of the Economic Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, the Director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, and the National Vice President of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Malaysia, Chef Wong from the Restaurant Caterbest, all showing their strong support for this initiative.
I have tried and tasted the Taichung Murcott. The first impression is the striking orange color skin. The skin is easier to feel and immediately you can smell the scent of the fragrant of Taichung murcott. On top of the color, the Taichung Murcott is juicy and probably the best I have tested. I took the first bite and it exploded inside my mouth. WOW! It is not just juicy, its sweet too! What a gem!
The first batch of Taichung murcott arrived in Malaysia on March 3rd, with more shipments planned for Singapore, Canada, and other selected countries. Taichung is expected to export approximately 150 metric tons of murcotts this year.
Famous for its thin skin and juiciness, the Taichung Murcott took center stage in a fun peeling challenge, where guests tried to peel it by hand without getting their hands wet—bringing lots of laughter to the event.
A key highlight of the event was the exclusive dish “When Life Gives You Murcott”—a citrus-infused stir-fried chicken created by Restaurant Caterbest using Taichung Murcott. Its mildly tangy and fragrant flavour offered a refreshing twist that delighted guests. As a trusted halal restaurant with over 20 years of history, Restaurant Caterbest has hosted esteemed figures such as Oscar-winning actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Malaysian food influencer Jen Jen and her dad chef from Caterbest made a special appearance to share the creative journey behind the dish, showcasing a cross-cultural culinary innovation.
Taichung Murcotts are now available across major Malaysian retail outlets, including Harvest Impact, Aeon, Jaya Grocer, TF Value-Mart, Star Grocer, and Wholefood Market. Don’t miss your chance to taste the delicious charm of Taichung Murcotts!
